African Prayer
by Ernest
With the splurge of Xenophobia that is currently rampant in South Africa, this image gave me hope. I had gone to a ridge outside of the main city of Johannesburg to get an image of an ancient water tower. In a field close by folks were gathering on small groups. Judging by their attire I gathered they had come to pray, unusual as it was a Saturday. But as we are experiencing trying times I understood the folks did not want to wait for Sunday.

This mother was not part of a group, only accompanied by her young son who was playing in the grass as youngster bored with the proceedings would do. I watched this with interest through my lens. Then the youngster stood in front of his mother, I clicked the shutter. I wonder what was going through his young mind as he watched his mother in prayer. What memories would he have if shown this picture years from now.
